Just do YOU :)

When I started blogging, I didn’t want people who knew me to know about it. I know what you’re thinking – how can you be posting stuff all over the internet and not want people to see it???

My problem was, that even though I love blogging, I care too much about what people think. Having them judge me based on things I say or do, gives me major anxiety. It’s different for people who don’t know me personally, because they only judging the content, not the writer, you know?

Yesterday, I created a new Facebook page to go along with my website and today, linked it with my blog’s Instagram account, not thinking that it would invite my Facebook friends. A few minutes later, so many notifications were popping up with new followers and I couldn’t understand how they all found my Instagram, at exactly the same time. Who knew linking social media accounts can do that? Not this girl, obviously.

Have you ever walked in a mall and fell flat on your face, then you stand up and every eye is on you? That’s the feeling I was having while all this was happening.
I called up my cousin and explained my little situation to her, she didn’t think it was a big deal at all, but then again, she’s not much of a drama queen.

This was one ridiculously small thing that I was nervous about having people know, really stupid now that I think about it actually, but the point is, we need to STOP caring so much about what other people think, it is such a waste of energy and emotion. Do whatever it is that makes YOU happy, as long as its legal 😉

Recent Spoils :)

How easy is it too get sucked into buying things you don’t need? Especially nearing month-end, when you’re just awaiting payday. Then after the purchases are done, you convince yourself that you needed every item you bought. This happens to me all the time, so once again, I’ve bought a few new makeup/beauty goodies which I really didn’t need…

My Skin Saver

Anyone who knows me, knows the one thing I always complain about – my eczema.

I’ve been on and off cortisone creams for about 13 years and only later on, heard of all the negative effects it can have on your skin. I’ve tried to stay clear of it and use other remedies but always come back to cortisone because it works so fast.

Unsightly bumps…

Some may feel this post is a bit of an overshare, but then again, what are blogs for, right?

Having studied beauty therapy, one is forced to perform and also receive all treatments which would be offered in a salon or spa, one of those being waxing. I hate the pain of waxing but my hair grows too quickly when shaving so I just have to suck it up.

After each wax, I always get ingrown hairs, these start out as little red bumps, some of which grow until they are about half a pea size. They are incredibly painful and itchy at the same time and no amount of exfoliation seems to help (I usually use a facial exfoliator for more sensitive body areas).

Last month, I was just fed up. I searched through my very large, unnecessary mass of products because there just had to be something in all that crap that could help me and there it was..

I came across a bottle of Environ’s Derma-Lac Lotion which had never been opened and decided to give it a go. It contains Alpha Hydroxy Acids which is helpful for congested, sun-damaged or uneven skins. It can be used on it’s own or in conjunction with one of Environ’s body creams for added benefits. This product claims to “soften and improve the appearance of the skin and hydrate dry, calloused skin on the elbows, knees and heels.”
After taking a shower, I slapped on a generous amount and kept my fingers crossed. I must admit, I didn’t think this product would help at all but the next morning I was very pleasantly surprised.
All the bumps were flat, not completely gone, but they had decreased in size by atleast 50%. That shiny appearance, like when your skin stretches and it looks as if it can tear at any second, was gone and the pain was almost non-existent (and no, I am not exaggerating here, lol).

After years of ingrown irritation, I’m so glad to have finally found a solution,  now all I need is an invention for pain-free hair removal 🙂

A little rant!

They say bad things always occur in 3’s and this, I feel is definetly one of those situations.

I decided to wait a while before posting this because I have a tendency to be quite hasty and I wanted to make sure I wasn’t being too dramatic.

My first and second Rubybox’s were great, I found that I could use most of what was given to me and quite enjoyed the products.

When I received my third box however, I was slightly disappointed. I only could make use of one of the products, which was the Africology Tissue oil. I cannot use bubble bath or aqueous creams as they make me itch and give me rashes. After giving those products away, I shrugged off the irritation and waited on the next delivery.

Once again, disappointed. I received a very large soap bar,  anugly plastic headband, a travel size Moya body cream and a blue NYX eyeshadow, also, no product description card so I could not see the pricing.

On the Rubybox website, one has the option to fill out a personal beauty profile, I had done so and had stated I have sensitive skin. Why on Earth you would send someone a soap bar or bubble bath for that matter, when they have sensitive skin??? Being in the beauty industry,  you should be well aware of the effects of soaps on your skin! I love Moya products, but the cream was not even half full and as for blue eyeshadow.. come on now.

If I understood correctly,  the reason for completing the profile was so that the products you receive are more suited you needs/concerns.

To make my blood pressure rise slightly higher, my cousin was browsing around in China Town, only to come across products given in one of the boxes, and these were being sold at an extremely low cost.

The products in these boxes are meant to be of good/high quality, I dont know about you, but I would never buy ANY skin or body care from a China Town.

Then this morning, I received my fifth box, the initial excitement I got when receiving my order was long gone and with good reason. A box of samples, yaaaay (note the sarcasm) and again, no description card. I received three sachets of Nivea in-shower moisturiser, a tiny Mavala nail product, a sample of Natural LAB face cream and a Rubybox smootch stick.

This box costs me R169 per month, to receive a box of practically all samples is absolutely disgusting to me. I mean, do you know how much I can get for R169 at Clicks, and it would be things I am able to use! I

t seems as though I am not the only one this has happened to, so they can count on one less subscriber.

*Sigh* I do feel slightly better now.

Oil Slick

On Sunday morning, I decided to do some shopping, I dragged my younger cousin, Kirsten, along and the two of us did some damage in the mall. While browsing around Clicks, I came across the Lipidol display, and as we all know, everyone and their mother’s are using this product, so I decided to try it out too. Due to my dehydration concerns, I opted for the Face Cleansing Oil. Continue reading
